Training for SLT professionals

Conversation is the most frequent task we all undertake in daily life.

Good conversation is the lemonade in life and it’s all of our responsibility.

We know communication partner training (CPT) works. But we also know it can be hard to implement.

Dr Firle Beckley (the science)

Firle is a speech and language therapist with over 16 years experience designing, delivering and evaluating the Better Conversations approach to CPT. She really understands the challenges and rewards of adopting CPT.

Nikki Hafter (the art)

Nikki and Firle have worked together on various community projects (for example The Art of Conversation with Aphasia) co-designing and blending creative activities with CPT to explore playful ways to embed CPT into clinical practice.

Ben Goldstein (the lived experience)

Ben lives with aphasia after a stroke. He is more than happy to tell you how it is and how we can help as speech and language therapists.

“Thank you so much, [your training] was really helpful. I think this will help in my confidence and ability to support conversation partners and the person with aphasia (Speech and language therapist Leeds NHS Trust).”

“Your training helped me think about the clinical environment and the impact it may have on clients and how we can change our way of approaching CPT away from medical model.”
